Welcome to Like A Girl! We are a blog that seeks to inform people about amazing women of color that have changed the country and sometimes, the world, but are forgotten in the history books. Some examples of these women are Mary Jackson and Kalpana Chawla (who are two of our "women of the week", but we will get to that later). On our blog, we have four categories that our blog posts fall into: Women of the Week, Challenges, Around the World, and Movements. Today, we will be breaking down each one of these categories.
On our blog, we have four categories that our blog posts mainly fall into: Women of the Week, Challenges, Around the World and Movements.
Woman of the Week
Woman of the Week is a weekly profile posted about inspiring women of color who have accomplish amazing feats, but aren't as well-known as their male counterparts. This section is available at the bottom of the home page, and will only a 2-3 minute read.
Basically, every post will work like this:
- It will start with a few bullets about this week's woman's biggest accomplishments.
- The first paragraph will recount her early life and the circumstances she grew up in.
- The second paragraph will describe her career and success.
- The last paragraph will detail her legacy and the doors she opened for other women.
Challenges
Challenges is a category where we attempt challenges (go figure) that have a female twist. Even though these posts are a bit longer, they're definitely more fun and entertaining. And the best part is that you can give us ideas TOO! DM us if you want your idea to be used and we will give you credit!
Around the World
Around the World is a collection of posts that center around multiple women (such as the first five doctors), and usually contain a "world" theme. This category is more of a mix of articles, and have varying lengths (but will probably be one the short side).
Others
Some other types of blog posts that will be available on our page are:
- Movements: focuses on the role of women of color in major movements
- Current Events: focuses on what's happen today with a female twist
- Creative Think Pieces: covers pretty much everything else we want to address
For now, these are all the categories that our content will fall under. Thank you so much for reading! Leave a like, and keep reading on!
