As K-Dramas have grown in popularity in the Western world in recent years, so has the prominence of Korean actors. Names like Lee Min-ho, Park Bo-gum, and Hyun Bin have become more recognizable outside of Korea. With this in mind, today we bring you a list of five Korean actresses that you may want to learn more about!
A theatre graduate from Dongguk University, Park Min-young made her television debut with a commercial in 2005 and has since risen to fame through a series of shows and dramas. She’s won a variety of awards from her awards and is a large philanthropic figure in the film industry.
Ha Ji-won is one of Korea’s most prominent historical film actors, and is one of South Korea's most sought after and critically acclaimed actresses. She has shown to be excellent in any acting genre and has become internationally recognized in the last decade. In addition to acting, she also plays an active part in the music, fashion, and literature industries.
Lee Young-ae, who first debuted as a model, is famous for her role in the movie Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, which she received multiple Best Actress awards for. She is a very well-known actor across Asia, and the most philanthropically involved of the list. Her work is affiliated with numerous charities, and has had a huge impact.
The oldest on the list, Yoon Jeong-hee has been an active actress since 1967. She debuted with a starring role on Cheongchun Geukjang and was quickly named as one of the “three” of the 1960s. Her filmography credits are extensive and also the longest of these five actresses, with roles in every type of film imaginable. She’s received a lot of awards, such as Best Actress, Favorite Actress, and Best Acting - each multiple times.
Soo Ae is the only actress out of these who began her career on television before becoming best known as a leading actress in film. At a young age, she nearly became part of a K-pop idol group, but had no album to put out after the end of her training. Compared to the number of roles she’s had, her award nominations and winnings are numerous! She’s received quite a few awards of excellence and serves as an inspiring role model to actress hopefuls.
